Mona Elizabeth Blades was an 18-year-old New Zealand woman who disappeared in 1975 while hitchhiking. Her body and belongings have never been found and no one has been charged in connection with her disappearance and presumed murder. It is one of New Zealand's longest unsolved murder cases.Blades was hitchhiking from Hamilton to Hastings on Saturday May 31 1975, the first day of the Queen's Birthday long weekend, and was last seen on the road between Napier and Taupo in an orange Datsun 120Y station wagon.

Paintergate was a political scandal in New Zealand. Paintergate occurred in 2002 when it was revealed that Prime Minister Helen Clark had signed a piece of art on the back which she did not paint. The painting was auctioned off for charitable purposes.The abstract landscape painting was painted by Paraparaumu artist Lauren Phouhy.Ms Clark was not charged by police.

The inquiry found that he had conducted a study between 1966 and 1987 in which the cases of women with major cervical abnormalities were followed without definitive treatment, in an attempt to prove his "personal belief" that these abnormalities were "not a forerunner of invasive cancer."
