Aren Maeir is a professor at Bar Ilan University and director of the Tell es-Safi/Gath Archaeological Project (). Born in 1958 in Rochester, New York, USA, he moved to Israel in 1969 and has lived there since. Following his service in the Israel Defence Forces (where he reached the rank of captain), he did his undergraduate and graduate studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem (PhD 1997 summa cum laude), and held a post-doctoral position (2002-2003) at the now defunct Dibner Institute for the History of Science and Technology at MIT.

Tomb of Samuel
The Tomb of Samuel, (, translit. Nebi Samwil , translit. Kever Shmuel;), is the traditional burial site of the biblical Hebrew prophet Samuel, atop a steep hill at an elevation of 908 meters above sea level. It is situated to the north of the Jerusalem neighborhood of Ramot. On the site is a building containing a mosque built in the 18th century that was formerly a church. The tomb itself is located in an underground chamber where a small synagogue is located.

Megillat Antiochus ( - "The Scroll of Antiochus"; also "Megillat HaHashmonaim", or "Megillat Hanukkah") is a work recounting the story of Hannukah and the history of the victory of the Maccabees (Hasmoneans) over the Seleucid Empire.This work has come down to us in both Aramaic and Hebrew; the Hebrew version is a literal translation from the Aramaic original. It was published for the first time in Mantova in 1557. The Hebrew text with an English translation can be found in the Siddur of Philip Birnbaum.
