Grandview-Woodland is a neighbourhood in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to the east of the downtown area, stretching south from the shores of Burrard Inlet and encompassing portions of the popular Commercial Drive area. It is a mature neighbourhood in Vancouver that is a vibrant mixture of commercial, industrial, single-family and multi-family residential with a rich ethnic history and features.

Major James Skitt Matthews (7 September 1878 1 October 1970) was the City of Vancouver's first archivist and an early historian and chronicler of the city; Major Matthews also refers to a building named in his honour in Vanier Park, Vancouver, Canada.Born in Wales, Matthews lived for a time in New Zealand before settling in Vancouver in 1898. He was an officer with the Duke of Connaught’s Own Rifles Sixth Regiment, a Freemason, and was named Kitsilano "Citizen of the Year" in 1959.

Sam Kee Building is located at 8 West Pender Street in Vancouver, British Columbia, and is noteworthy for being the narrowest commercial building in the world. At the turn of the 20th century, the Sam Kee Company was one of the wealthiest firms in Chinatown. It bought this land as a standard-sized lot in 1903, but the City widened Pender Street in 1912 and expropriated 24 feet (7.3 m) of the lot.

The Socialist Party of British Columbia (SPBC) (later Socialist Party of Canada (British Columbia)) was a provincial political party in British Columbia, Canada, that merged in 1905 into a national political party, the Socialist Party of Canada (SPC). Two years earlier, the SPBC successfully won seats in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia to oppose the provincial government. The SPC was not successful in winning seats in the Canadian House of Commons.
