Roberto Mangabeira Unger (b. 1947, Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian contemporary social theorist, politician, and law professor at Harvard Law School.He is the Harvard Law School's only South American faculty member. He was associated with the Critical Legal Studies movement for a brief period in the late 1970s and early 1980s, although Unger has set forth his own criticisms of some of the central ideas that emerged out of this movement, in particular the indeterminacy debate in legal theory, which Unger calls the "radicalization of indeterminacy" in his own writings.

The Te Rata Bridge was a suspension bridge across the Retaruke River in the King Country, New Zealand. On 22 March 1994 two transoms (the supporting beams suspended from wire ropes running from side to side beneath the bridge) snapped causing the bridge to collapse while beekeeper Kenneth Richards was crossing in a laden light truck. Richards was killed when the truck fell 30 metres into the river.

The event is held on the last Friday of the third term and was organised by the University of Canterbury Engineering Society Inc. (ENSOC) until 2007. The premise of the event is for student members of ENSOC to purchase a used vehicle for less than NZ$500, decorate both the vehicle and themseves before driving five hours south to the city of Dunedin.
