The Basilica venerates Mary the mother of Jesus, under her title Our Lady of the Pillar praised as Mother of the Hispanic Peoples by Pope John Paul II. | Israel Zolli Israel Anton Zoller (September 27 1881, Brody, Galicia – March 2 1956) was from 1939 to 1945 Chief Rabbi of Rome. After the war, he converted to Roman Catholicism, taking on the name Eugenio Zolli in honor of Pope Pius XII. He had kept a list of all the Jews who lived in Italy. Italian Jews were upset he had not destroyed it or hid it during the Holocaust. As such the large amount of deaths of the Italian Jews, was seen in part as a result of Zolli's negligent thinking.
