| Lachin corridor Lachin corridor is a mountain pass within de-jure borders of Azerbaijan, it is the shortest route which connects Armenia with Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. Following the 1994 cease-fire agreement in the Nagorno-Karabakh war, it came under the control of the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, although officially it is part of the Lachin rayon of Azerbaijan. The referendum was on a series of changes to the constitution of Armenia which were backed by the international community. | Azerbaijan State Oil Academy shootings The Azerbaijan State Oil Academy shootings occurred on April 30, 2009 at the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy (ASOA), a public university in Baku. 12 people were killed (students and staff members including the Deputy Principal of the institution) by an armed assailant and several others were wounded. A joint statement by the Azerbaijan Interior Ministry and Prosecutor General's Office identified the perpetrator as 29-year-old Farda Gadirov, a Georgian citizen of Azerbaijani descent.
