Socialist Party of Canada (British Columbia)
The Socialist Party of British Columbia (SPBC) (later Socialist Party of Canada (British Columbia)) was a provincial political party in British Columbia, Canada, that merged in 1905 into a national political party, the Socialist Party of Canada (SPC). Two years earlier, the SPBC successfully won seats in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia to oppose the provincial government. The SPC was not successful in winning seats in the Canadian House of Commons.

British Columbia general election, 2009
The 39th British Columbia general election was held on May 12, 2009 to elect members of the Legislative Assembly in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The BC Liberal Party formed the government of the province prior to this general election under the leadership of Premier Gordon Campbell. The New Democratic Party under the leadership of Carole James is the Official Opposition.

British Columbia electoral reform referendum, 2009
A second referendum on electoral reform was held in conjunction with the provincial election on May 12 2009. The BC-single transferrable vote (BC-STV) electoral system was again voted on by the BC electorate. It would have required 60 per cent overall approval and 50 per cent approval in at least 60 per cent of the province's electoral districts in order to succeed. However, the referendum was defeated, with only 38.82% of voters provincially supporting the change.

John Irving (steamship captain)
John Irving was a steamship captain in British Columbia, Canada. He began on the Fraser River at the age of 18 and would become one of the most famous and prosperous riverboat captains of the era. His father, William Irving was known as the "King of the River" and the neighborhood of Irvington in Portland, Oregon is named in honor of their family.

Rodney Young (politician)
Rodney Young (March 21, 1910 Member of Parliament.Young was born in Liverpool and emigrated to Canada in 1926 at the age of 16 setting in Vancouver. He was a socialist activist during the Great Depression and did political work in the unemployment relief camps that were set up during the Great Depression in Canada.
